The people of Madeira need our help.

This may not be ‘new’ news any more, but as a resident on the Silver Coast it is important and relevant.

This morning we went to the local post office in Vermelha and they are giving people cardboard boxes to fill with dry foods or clothes in an effort to help in some small way, the disaster stricken people of Madeira.
Many are without basic necessities after the awful weather conditions. There is still no power for many families, whereas food and clothing is often hard to come by.

Some editorial from ips news.

We all have things in our food cupboards and wardrobes that we either do not need or can do without so we should all send them what we can.
I do not know if all the post offices are collecting things to send, but I do know that the boxes at Vermelha were given free of charge and that we should write ‘Madeira’ on the outside. They are then sent free of charge to the people that need them.

We at the Vineyard Retreat along with most of our fellow expats, are in a position to help a little.
This afternoon the wardrobes and cupboards here will be a little emptier.
We wish the best of luck to everyone associated with the collection and hope that it makes the lives of the people of Madeira a bit easier in the short term.

Andy.
